2017-18 Competitive Coaches

July 26, 2017 – The Kingston Impact Basketball Club is pleased to announce the 2017-2018  competitive team coaches for the following high school age teams.

We have 2 active post secondary assistant coaches joining the program this year.

Kevin Smart, a current assistant coach with the St. Lawrence College Men's team, will be taking over the U19 Junior Girls. Kevin has been involved with the Vikings programs for 14 years and is a very knowledgeable, competitive and highly respected coach in the community.  Kevin will be leading the Impact's return to the Ontario Junior Elite League (JUEL) this season.

On the boy's side, Queen's Golden Gael's assistant, Jermaine Small will be heading up our U19 Junior boys team. Jermaine will be entering his 4th year with the Queen's men's program. He previously had been an assistant for three years at Ryerson University before joining the Gaels. Jermaine has been leading the Queen's Elite Academy the last 2 seasons and is well regarded for his ability to communicate with players and his basketball knowledge.

At the U17 boys level, Brett Walsh will continue to work his magic with the 2001 age group. One of the hardest working young coaches in the community, Brett has continually brought out the best in his players. A former Impact player himself, this local high school teacher has been coaching almost year round for the last 7 years at Sydenham High School, with the Impact and his AAU program, Eastern Ontario Elite.

At the U16 girls level, Jason Reynolds will be returning as the head coach of our Major Midget #1 team. Jason will be entering his 3rd year coaching at this age group and his 6th overall with the Impact.  Currently the head coach for the La Salle S.S. Senior Girls team, Jason looks forward to challenge of another year in the Ontario Junior Elite Prep league hoping to improve on the club's 9th place finish last season.

Don Platt, a long time Impact coach will be returning to the sidelines to coach the Major Midget Girls #2 team. He brings a wealth of experience coaching at every level over his 20+ years involved in the Kingston sports community.

On the boy's side, Brock MacArthur, will replace Brett Walsh at the U16 Major Midget #1 level. This upcoming season will be his 5th as a coach for the Kingston Impact. A high-energy coach, Brock's teams are known for their hard work at the defensive end and playing at a frenetic pace.

Note: these are not the only teams that the Impact will be forming at these age groups. Further announcements including our younger teams will be made closer to tryouts in mid September.
