Major Bantam Girls win silver at Mike O'Connor

February 15, 2017 - The Kingston Impact Major Bantam Girls - Reynolds had another Silver weekend February 10-12, 2017. Playing in the AAA division at the Mike O'Connor Memorial tournament, the team went 3-2 overall and played 5 good games.

Friday night the tournament kicked off against a quick and well coached Scarborough Blues team. The Impact team was down 7-1 immediately but twice battled back to one point deficits, before falling 36-30. Kennedy Joyce with 12 points and Ella Pratt Vallier with 15 points led the way.

Saturday saw a close game against the Ottawa Shooting Stars, the game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter. Impact took the lead with a 15-8 second quarter and a 9-2 third quarter, but Ottawa closed the gap in the fourth. The final score was 38-35, and felt even closer at times! Ella Pratt Vallier had 11 points, Tegan Reynolds with 9, while Talya Kartye, with 11 rebounds, and Anna Hart with 8 rebounds, controlled the boards.

The third pool game was against a Quebec team, St Exupery, and Impact led from start to finish on their way to a 48-24 win.

Sunday's semi final was against the Gloucester Wolverines and this was a back and forth game. Impact trailed 10-7 after the first, then won the second quarter to go into half ahead 19-14. The second half was almost even, and Kingston moved on to the final after hanging on to the 36-30 win. Cassie Dixon led the team with 11, while Talya Kartye had 9 rebounds, and Tegan Reynolds had 8.

The final saw Kingston face the Nepean Blue Devils, and after trailing 18-16 at half, Kingston couldn't keep the momentum going in the second half. A 16-5 third quarter was too much to overcome, and the team ended up losing 45-37.

Ella Pratt-Vallier was named the tournament MVP for the Impact.

An excellent team effort all weekend, congratulations on the Silver medal.
