Major Atom Girls win Gold in KW
Jan 26th, 2014 – The Kingston Impact Major Atom Girls came back victorious from the Kitchener Waterloo Lightning tournament last weekend.
Playing in only their 2nd tournament of the year, the girls played their hearts out going 5-0 and winning the championship.
In a much tighter game than the score indicated, the Impact finished the 4th quarter on an 18-4 run to defeat St. Catherine’s CYO 50-36 in the final. Aaliyah Edwards continued her stellar play from throughout the tournament scoring 24 points while Ella Muise was the second highest scorer with 8. The Impact’s Maddy MacInnis had her best game of the season holding St. Catherine’s top scoring threat to only 3 points while also controlling the boards.
In the preliminary games, KIBC defeated Belleville Spirits 57-29, Collingwood Trailblazers 72-17 and the host Kitchener Waterloo Lightning #2 team 47-12.
In the semi-final vs. Guelph CYO, the Impact roared out to an early 24-8 commanding lead by half time and didn’t look back. Roxanne Gervais and Tegan Reynolds lead the way with 10 points each.
Next up for this team is the Mike O’Connor Tournament in Ottawa Feb 7-9.
