2014 Mega Results
March 5, 2014 – Thank you to all the participants, fans and volunteers that made the 2014 Mega tournament such a success.
44 female teams in 3 age groups and 5 divisions participated in 90 games around the City but only 2 local teams finished in the medals. The Kingston Impact Major Atom girls won gold in the AAA/AA division while the Kingston Cast earned silver at the Major Midget AA level.
At the Major Midget AAA level, Polypus U16 (Montreal) defeated the #9 ranked Ontario team 65-53 to win gold. Kingston Cats earned gold at AA with a 57-38 victory over Etobicoke.
The Kingston Impact Major Midget team advanced to the AA championship side but dropped a close 39-35 semi-final to Etobicoke and then lost 47-58 to the Gloucester Wolverines in the bronze medal game.
In the Major Bantam AAA/AA division, after some tough competition in the round robin, Nepean ended up defeating their cross town rival Ottawa Shooting Stars 31-28 for the gold medal. Gloucester #1 beat IEM 46-39 for bronze.
The Kingston Impact Major Bantam team started off on the wrong end of a 32-28 score to Gloucester #1 and didn’t fully recover. They ended up 1-3 for the weekend and didn’t advance to medal play.
At the AA/A level, the Cornwall Lions went undefeated winning the gold medal game against Gloucester #2 34-32. Arnprior won the bronze in a close 31-27 win over Ottawa Shooting Stars #2.
The Kingston Impact U13 #1 team playing up in the Major Bantam level did something that isn’t easy to do. They played in 3 straight 2 point games. They lost to Kemptville in a disappointing 4th quarter collapse 34-32, then lost again to the tournament champion Cornwall 38-36. Finally in what turned out to be the game that decided who would advance to the championship side, they defeated the Ottawa Shooting Stars #2 24-22 but it wasn’t enough to advance.
In the Major Atom division, the Kingston Impact went 4-0 to win their 2nd tournament of the year. In the final, Impact defeated Ottawa Shooting Stars 46-32. The bronze medal went to Ancaster who beat Brockville 44-30.
At the AA/A level, Belleville Spirits went undefeated on their way to winning the gold medal in a relatively comfortable 44-32 victory over Nepean #2. The bronze went to Kanata.
