Major Midget Girls Edwards wins Mega Gold

March 9, 2017 - The Major Midget AA/AAA tournament had seven highly competitive teams from various areas of Ontario.

Each team came prepared to chase gold entering the halfway point of the season. Timmins Select played with fierce defense and energy. They fought hard and just came up short in all three games. Gloucester Wolverines played with heart and determination throughout the tournament. The Grimsby Grizzlies played with poise and patience, winning the consolation game. Blessed Sacrament Jackets were fierce and feisty throughout the tournament demonstrating speed and strong shooting. The Goulbourn Hornets were a force to be reckoned with as they had a strong inside and outside game. They finished first in their pool and ended with a bronze medal win.

The finals were an all east final with the home team, Kingston Impact, playing their neighbors to the east the Brockville Blazers. Both teams were fired up for a hard fought battle. It was a very tight game, with both teams exchanging baskets end to end. In the final quarters, Kingston Impact turned up their defense and the offence came. Kingston Impact eventually winning the gold 66-45. Both teams played with passion and heart and demonstrated courage.

Congratulations to Aaliyah Edwards as the tournament MVP as she demonstrated tremendous poise and focus to guide her team to a well-deserved gold medal.

The Impact coaching staff are extremely proud of the courage, resilience and grit the players demonstrated throughout the tournament especially with the recent passing of their beloved Coach Jermaine.

Thank you to all the teams, coaches, parents, referees, and volunteers on a very successful tournament!

Here is a story about the weekend from the Brockville Recorder.
