Bronze in Brockville

January 25, 2016 - Kingston Impact Major Bantam Girls - Reynolds won bronze in Brockville, at the Stacey Dales Invitational Tournament Jan 22-24th weekend.  The girls started off Friday night in a tight battle with the Nepean Blue Devils, trailing 21-17 after the third quarter, the team made a run, only to fall just short, losing 27-26.  It was a balanced scoring game, Ella Pratt Vallier had 6 points, and Sydney Drain chipped in 5 for the Impact, while Mikayla McFarlane led the way with 9 rebounds.

Saturday led to more offense, and better defense as well.  The team got off to a good start against Naismith, leading 23-7 at the half, and then lost a bit of focus in the second half, but triumphed 39-25.  Kennedy Joyce had 9 points, while Anna Hart had 6 rebounds for the Impact.  That evening against the Belleville Spirits, a quick start carried over into the second half, as the Impact won 39-6.  Ella Pratt Vallier with 8 points, Anna Hart with 9 rebounds, and Sydney Drain with 9 steals, helped the Impact shut down the Spirits.

That led to a semi final match on Sunday morning, against the home team Brockville Blazers.  The Impact were in tough in this game, outsized and with less experience.  The team hung around in the first half, trailing 27-17, before fading in the third quarter.  A spirited fourth quarter was not enough to catch the Blazers, and the final was 52-32 against the Impact.  Kennedy Joyce and Tegan Reynolds with 6 points each led the way.

In the bronze medal game, the Impact again faced their opponent from Friday night, Nepean Blue Devils, with a chance to make up for the loss.  A much better defensive start led to a 13-6 lead at half time.  The team was able to hang on, and control the game down the stretch, which ended in a 27-21 victory for the Impact.  Chloe Cole had 7 rebounds, and 7 steals, leading the defensive effort.  Anna Hart and Mikayla McFarlane each had 7 points for the Impact.
