Major Bantam Girls go 3 for 3 with bronze medals

April 24, 2016 - There were 10 divisions, and 80 teams participating in the Ontario Cup Provincial Championships in Brampton on April 15-17th.  Three Kingston Impact teams participated and 3 came back with bronze medals:

  • Div 2 - Kingston Impact - Edwards
  • Div 6 - Kingston Impact - Reynolds
  • Div 7 - Kingston Impact - Coulter

In division 6, the Major Bantam Girls had a slow start on Friday night, trailing 19-8 at the half, but rallied in the second half, winning the third quarter 15-7, and the fourth quarter 14-6, en route to a 37-32 win.  Ella Pratt-Vallier led the way with 11 points, while Mikayla McFarlane and Talya Kartye had 6 rebounds each.

The first game on Saturday was a very close battle, with Impact ultimately losing 37-36 against a bigger and more experienced Niagara Red Raiders team.  Leading 15-12 at the half, the team faltered in the third quarter, falling behind 22-17.  Mikayla McFarlane was high scorer with 13 points, including 3 three pointers in the first half!  Saturday night the team had a good start, but then struggled a bit defensively, losing 47-32 to the eventual Gold medal winners, Sudbury Jam.
A tie breaking situation worked out favourably for the Impact, leading to the Bronze medal game on Sunday against the York South Silver Knights.  Leading 21-8 at the half, the Impact coasted through the second half, and triumphed 40-25 to win the Bronze.  Ella Pratt-Vallier and Anna Hart led the team in scoring, and Tegan Reynolds had 7 rebounds.
