Major Midget Boys win Gold Div 2 at Ontario Cup
May 17, 2016 - It was a golden season for the Kingston Impact Major Midget Boys team coached by head coach Brett Walsh and assistant coaches Brian Black and Justin Wallace.
The team started the season with a tournament in the Hoopdome in Toronto bringing home a gold medal after only three practices together.
They then travelled to the MUMBA tournament in Markham, where the team posted their only two losses in tournament play to a strong team from Waterloo. They won their only silver medal of the season after a narrow one basket defeat to Waterloo.
The Major Midget Boys then played their final regular season tournament in Durham. The boys worked hard as a team and were rewarded with another gold medal.
Finally, the Major Midget team who was seeded first in Division 2, played in the Ontario Basketball Association's season concluding tournament in Ottawa.
The team went undefeated in pool play and went on to meet a tenacious team from the Ottawa Next Level in the gold medal match. After a slow start that saw the team done by as much as 12 in the first quarter, the team climbed to within five by the half and then began to pull away in the second half allowing the boys to finish as the Division Two gold medalists with a 73-64 win! The team's dedication, work ethic, sportsmanship and "come from behind" drive made for a very special season.
Congratulations to all of the Major Midget Impact boys and their coaches!
