Major Bantam Girls Mawdsley earns silver at Ontario Cup
April 10, 2017 - The Major Bantam Girls Team Mawdsley started off their Ontario Cup weekend with an exciting come from behind 32-36 victory against the Gloucester Wildcats on Friday night.
Saturday's 2 games were convincing wins against the Barrie Royals and Orillia Lakers, 29-19 and 29-8 respectively.
With a 3-0 record going into Sunday morning's last round robin game, the Impact were unable to come away with the win against the Brockville Blazers, losing 32-37.
In a 3 way tie for 1st place, Kingston won the tiebreaker and would tip off once again against the Gloucester Wildcats for the gold medal game.
In the final, the girls were down at half, but battled back and nearing the end of the 4th quarter the game was tied. The Wildcats stole the ball back for a layup to pull ahead by two.
A Kingston time-out was called with 3 seconds left, moving the ball up the court. The Impact easily got the ball in and had a perfect shot that hit the rim. The girls fought hard and left Brampton with a well-earned silver medal!
