Academy Student Leaders

What do we do?

We are always looking for new student leaders to help run our programs. Please review below and if this interests you, please apply at the bottom of the page.

Location

  • Kingston Secondary School
  • Except:
    • November 4th and December 9th will be at Regiopolis-Notre Dame

Schedule

  • 16 weekly sessions total
  • Every Saturday, starting October 21, 2023 until March 2, 2024
  • 8:00am-3:25pm (daily time may be subject to minor changes

Philosophy

FUN, Fun and more Fun. Players will make friends, learn basic movement, basketball specific skills and participate in fitness related activities. Develop a love of sport for life! The Academy promotes an active lifestyle by providing a positive experience in sport. To that end, we want all players to experience the fun of being a contributing member of a team while gaining confidence by learning new skills and applying them to various game situations.

  • Fundamentals of movement

  • Age-specific drills

  • We believe team tactics are not necessary, but an age appropriate understanding of the game is

  • Try to assure equal match ups whenever possible for positive development

    • Court markings, rules of the game and basketball terminology
    • Encourage fair play and teamwork.

Student Leader Job Description

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow and execute Coaches’ instructions
  • Independently lead players during drills and games
  • Must be able to officiate (referee) basketball games
  • Scorekeeping
  • Complete tasks given by the Academy Director and Coordinator (ie. sweeping gym floors, lowering/raising net heights, pumping basketballs, etc.)
  • Actively participate and encourage all Academy players during the entire session
  • Be outgoing and enthusiastic to help deliver a dynamic sessions each week
  • Be reliable, dependable, and committed to the season
  • Create a positive and fun environment for players

Employee Hourly Wages

Under 18 years old: $15.60

18 and older: $16.55

Volunteers

Collecting volunteer hours for high school credit is also an option upon Student Leader request. Wages cannot be collected simultaneously with accruement of volunteer hours.
