Spring Development

Overview

Coming in Spring 2024, the Kingston Impact are excited to launch a series of new programs targeting a variety of ages and specific skill levels.

Each program brings a unique approach to player development and will be delivered by experienced coaches:

  • James Bambury - long time USport Women's Coach (Brandon University, Queen's University, Royal Military College)
  • Connor Vreeken - former Carleton Raven's Men's basketball player and owner/operator Why Not You Basketball

All programs will start the week of April 29 and will run 6 weeks and finish by June 6.

Programs will not run Monday, May 20th, due to the Victoria Day holiday.

All programs will be held at the new high school, École secondaire publique Mille-Îles at 1290 Wheathill St., Kingston, ON K7M 0A7.

Program #1 - Art of the Game

This program is aimed at elementary age player who are still learning the basics of how to play the game. 

Primarily using 3 on 3 and small sided games, this program will emphasize conceptual offence including:

  • Spacing
  • Moving without the ball
  • Pace and purpose
  • Simple basketball actions

Also incuded will be focusing on the basic skills required to be successful including physical literacy, ball handling and shooting.

This is the perfect complement to those currently playing in our Spring League who are looking for additional development opportunities.

We will offer 3 groups:

In each group, players will be divided based on ability and experience.

Program #2 - 2 Person Game

Focusing on the "2-person game" (ball screens, dribble hand-offs, gets etc), this program is for grade 8 and older athletes who want to learn the nuances of how to gain an advantage and use it.

Aimed at experienced players, this is an introduction to expanding your knowledge on some of the hardest to master, most important aspects of basketball offensive concepts.

We only offer 1 group for this and it will be a 5 session program.

Program #3 - Fundamental Skills and Movement

This is for young players (grades 3-5)  who are looking to improve on their core athletic abilities like catching, cutting, running, jumping, coordination within a basketball environment.

This is an extension of our Novice Academy program but geared to the individual player looking to improve their physical literacy while also working on basic basketball fundamental skills like ball handling and shooting.

We offer only 1 group for this:

We will divide players up based on current abilities to ensure that they are properly challenged throughout the sessions.

Withdraw

We understand conflicts come up and sometimes parents may need to withdraw their child from a program. 

  • To withdraw, please email camps@kingstonimpact.ca, providing the name of your child(ren) and the program that they will not be attending.
  • Full refunds will be provided up until April 14, 2024.
  • From April 15, full refunds less a $30 admin fee will be provided up until the Sunday night at 11:59 pm, April 28. 
  • After that deadline refunds will not be provided.
